About the Artist

John was born in Medina, Ohio and developed a love of drawing at an early age.  He favored art classes over reading, writing, and arithmetic.  John moved to Colorado in 1976 and quickly came to love all the outdoor adventure Colorado has to offer.

John began developing his artistic skills as a sculptor in 1985 while working under Robert Morning Gun, a local Crow Indian sculptor.  John’s sculptures focused on western themes in Colorado alabaster and were featured in galleries in Taos and Sedona throughout the 80’s and 90’s.   His sculptures are currently on display at Western Stars Gallery and Studio in Lyons and the Parkside Gallery in La Veta.

In 1987, John began studying oil painting at the Denver Student Art League as one of the original members.  He studied under Ramon Kelly, John Lencinki, Ron Hicks, and Doug Dawson.  He also studied under George Coll in Loveland.

John’s work covers the spectrum from cityscapes and landscapes to figures, animals, and western themes.  Using bold colors and textures gives his paintings depth and dimension.  John’s work has been described as “vibrant” and “original”.

John’s oil paintings have been displayed at Framed Images in Englewood, Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, and Foothills Art Center in Golden.  His paintings are currently on display at Western Stars Gallery and Studio in Lyons and Independence Gallery in Loveland.  John also participates in seasonal outdoor shows in Colorado.

John is an avid outdoorsman and lives in Loveland with his wife and dogs.
